Violin Teaching Method

My goal for my students is for them to love music and truly understand it. I teach a combination of traditional sight-reading and ear-training/improvisation so that my students will be able to not only play what is on the written page, but ultimately understand the chord theory undergirding the written page.

I focus primarily on Christian, classical, and traditional music. I work with each student's interests, believing that they will learn best when they are having fun with the music they play. I emphasize enjoyment and foundational understanding, not competition, pressure, or frequent performances.

All of my students go through theory workbooks in addition to their musical assignments. Choosing a book suited to their ability, I will assign 1-2 pages of theory each week so that students can systematically cover key concepts and reinforce their knowledge. My students enjoy the hands-on manipulatives I use for theory explanations.
